Another of my projects for Northumbria's Design for Industry course was to create a pet coffin aimed at young children with no concept of death.
Taking inspiration from the Mexican "D?a de los Muertos" (Day of the Dead) I decided to create a coffin for Mexican pets. I was fascinated about how they celebrate the dead in the afterlife, being positive for something that is normally a very sad occasion. I tried to think of how this might work for our beloved pets. For many, the loss of a pet is extremely tragic - so why can't they go to the afterlife too?
This project explores how a skull-themed coffin might be used to transport a pet hamster to the underworld, along with its precious belongings stored in the skull's mouth (like a hamster stores its food) with the surreal art style that is seen throughout Mexico.
